Cramlington Bowling Club opened in 1927 as an EBF (English Bowls Federation) club. The club took part in the EBF leagues and competitions up to 1969 when it joined the EBA(English Bowls Association) and is now affiliated to Bowls Northumberland (Formally The County Bowling Association) and Bowls England
The Bowling Club is situated at Ann Welfare, Klondyke. This site is near to the Ann Pit, which was sunk in 1825.The pit has long since disappeared, as have all the other coal mines in the area. The Miners’ Welfare Institute building was also on the same site as the Bowling Club, hence the name ‘Ann Welfare’.The Institute is also long gone but the history of the mining industry, particularly in the mines here in Cramlington remains in the memories of many of its residents.
